Veterans' Day Cook Off

Categories and Rules

 

Entry Fee - $20 per category

 

Categories -   Ribs, Pork Loin, Beans/other sides and Desserts. 

 

Each team will be provided a disposable sample container for each category.  Team numbers will be on the container entered for judging.  We will have three impartial judges not involved in the cooking contest.

 

Ribs – Each cook prepares at least one rack of ribs and will turn in a three rib sample at 4p.m.  – Judging at 4:30 p.m.

 

Pork Loin – Each cook prepares at least one pork loin and will turn in a three-slice sample at 4:30 p.m. – Judging at 5 p.m.

 

Sides – Each cook prepares their own side to enter and will turn in a sample at 5 p.m. – Judging at 5:30 p.m. (The sample should only be large enough for each of the three judges to try two bites).

 

Desserts – Each cook prepares one dessert to enter and will turn in a sample – turn in at 5:30 p.m. – Judging at 6 p.m. (The sample should only be large enough for each of the three judges to try two bites).

 

All entry fees will be returned to the cooks as cash prizes, the payout will be as follows:

 

For each category: 1st place - 60% payback; 2nd place - 30% payback. The remaining 10% will go to the overall grand champion of the contest.  To be eligible for consideration of the grand championship you must enter all four categories.  In addition, we will auction off the top 5 desserts (less the samples turned in for judging) at the potluck (see below).

 

“Potluck” at 6:30 p.m. with each entrant paying $5 and bringing a covered dish. 

 

**All proceeds from the sale of meals will go to NEW CREATION LIFEWORK, a non-profit organization that supports homeless vets.  We are proud that the organization’s leader is one of our Art’s Festival Vendors.
